About

Hi, I’m Marla! I’m a freelance writer living in Marietta, Georgia with my husband, six kids, two dogs, a cat, and a bird. I write about homeschooling, child development, neuroscience, and the history of education.

I’m published regularly in The Old Schoolhouse Magazine (including “Why Homeschool? History to Present,” “Year Round Homeschooling is Better for Brain and Life Balance,” “Homeschooling Multiple Ages and Grades,” and “STEM, STEAM, What Do They Mean?”), and I’ve written ghost blogs for companies in the health and education industries. I also write curriculum published online through SchoolhouseTeachers.com for elementary kids — including Stepping Through History: Starting With You! and a semester-long fifth grade science course.

I started Jump Into Genius to share brain-based homeschooling ideas: how movement, play, and understanding how the brain learns can turn your homeschool from stressful to joyful. Everything here is tested in my own very full house first.

(With an occasional poem thrown in, because everything good starts with a poem.)
